30/30 Composition Project

 
 

I vowed to write 30 seconds of new music per day for 30 days.  These are self-contained pieces that might lead to larger works later - but for now they are what they are - a series of short works.  


Having four-year-old triplet boys at home has really cut into my writing during the summer and teaching Theory, Skills, Technology, Jazz Appreciation, Small Jazz Ensembles and a Guitar Ensemble has really cut into my writing time during the school year, so this was my compromise.

Jim Scully, composer


Scully’s works have been featured at various venues throughout the United States, including the Electro-Acoustic Juke Joint on the campus of Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, the United Parish Church of Brookline in Massachusetts, The Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival in Berkeley, California, the Bakersfield Jazz Festival and aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California as part of the Music Association of California Community Colleges Conference in October of 2000. 


Other performances of his works have been hosted by the Bakersfield Symphony New Direction Concerts, CSU Bakersfield Jazz Coffeehouse Concerts, UC Irvine Composers’ Concert, Bakersfield Student Composers’ Concerts and CSU Bakersfield Theatre for New Voices.
